This map was published 8 years after the expedition’s return. The map was based on compass bearings and calculated distances that Wm. Clark kept track of daily. For those areas the expedition did not travel through, Clark relied on information that he and Lewis had gained from various Indians, French traders and other explorers. This was the first detailed map showing this region of the continent, making it one of the most important documents produced by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Approximately 5″x14″
