Towering atop Astoria's 600-foot Coxcomb Hill, it reaches another 125 feet into the sky. The Column, designed by New York architect Electus Litchfield, was dedicated in 1926. A sgraffito frieze, drawn by Italian artist Attilio Pusteria, illustrates the native peoples, the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and the westward sweep of civilization to the Pacific Northwest.
