About Us

SUPPORTING THE FORT SINCE 1963

The Lewis & Clark National Park Association (LCNPA) was established in 1963 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization for the purpose of supporting National Park Service educational and interpretive activities at Fort Clatsop.

Throughout our history, the LCNPA has funded various key projects for the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Our contributions include purchasing land for the park, funding the construction of trails and exhibits, publishing books, and supporting educational activities.

The Association receives no public funds, nor is it supported by any private endowment. If you would like to see the park continue to grow and expand, please consider making a donation or purchasing from our bookstore.

SEE THE IMPACT

If you’ve visited the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, you’ve experienced firsthand what the LCNPA has accomplished with funds raised through donations and bookstore purchases.

Arrival, the iconic statue located inside the visitor center, was commissioned by the LCNPA to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Created by Stanley Wanlass, it depicts Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, a Clatsop man, and the loyal dog Seaman as they arrive at the great Pacific Ocean.

We have published several educational works, including The Charbonneau Family Portrait, two books on the plants of Fort Clatsop, and other educational resource guides for teachers and educators.

Other achievements include:

  • Completing a successful fundraising effort to help build the visitor center facilities at Fort Clatsop.
  • Purchasing a major Lewis and Clark library for research at Fort Clatsop.
  • Purchasing 32 acres of land to the north of the park to protect important Park resources, and purchasing an additional 61 acres to the south of Fort Clatsop for the new Netul Landing area.
  • Contributing $15,000.00 to the creation of the Fort to Sea Trail.
  • Coordinating the contributions for the Fort Rebuild effort.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Remember, the profit from every purchase made at the Fort Clatsop Bookstore goes directly towards funding educational programs for the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park. Every contribution helps! We also invite you to donate to the Lewis & Clark National Park Association directly. With your help, we can continue to make a difference.
